Home loan, auto note, taxes, insurance, and cost of living. We all are hostages in some way. Its funny just how anytime you obtain a little cash in your pocket, thats when something breaks down or some expense pops up out of nowhere. You merely cant seem to shake em. So sick of feeling like a hostage in my very own country and I know in my heart that I am not the only one. Caught in a revolving systematic lifestyle making just enough money to stay afloat. Several have little option but to keep working. I imagine I’ll be working till I’m 80 if I cant break this endless pattern. lol In this self portrait each figure holding me at gun point stands for diffferent things in my life that are draining energy, time, and money from me daily. I purposely left the eyes out to remove human relation. This way the figures become mysterious dark objects used to portray negative energy. Art is my escape from the world, yet at the same time the sole factor I could still stand reality. “Money doesn’t matter.” I only hear this from people that have actually never ever been without money for long, or if need be, they would have ready access to it. A person just recently referred to my expanding fine art venture as my “dream.” “Dream?” I do not have a “dream”, I have a “strategy”, specifically a business strategy. Talented artists that suffer the most are those that believe that their success is located someplace beyond themselves. So their dreams inevitably fall short and they come to be frustrated. While artists keep a “dream” versus a “strategy”, they are undermining their success. Why? Because this “dream” state stops them from taking full obligation and embracing all of the effort and constant focus required. A continuos battle to prove the phrase “starving artist” is just an aged misconception. -David German
